Hypothesis: 

• General rates of the survey will be against taking the vaccine for COVID-19. People are generally skeptic on the outcome of creating a vaccine in the matter of a year, while it takes several years to make the average flu vaccine. So people will not give it a chance because of the possible side affects/ symptoms.

Methodology: 

• Surveyed adults residing in the United States.
• Contacted and enrolled via telephone, mail, and unperson interviews.
• Panel members received email, SMS, or phone invitations.
• The participants did not know what the survey was going to consist of.

Result(s): 

• 91.2% did survey via web; 8.8% did survey via telephone.
• 63.3% were White .
• 30.0% were 60years old or older.
• 51.1% were female.
• 37.8 have a high school diploma.
• 64.1% said there is a mild chance they would get Covid-19.
• 6.0% said they would get seriously ill from the coronavirus.
• 52.8 said they got the influenza vaccine

Overall

• 57.6% they are intended to get the vaccine.
• 31.6% they are not sure if they would get vaccinated.
• 10.8% they did not intend to get vaccinated.

Summary of key points: 

• Participants characteristics that are associated with “no” or “not sure” were young adults, females, Black or Hispanic, having lower education, lower household income, they live in rural areas, and less likely to have received the influenza vaccine.
• Participants who responded with “not sure” were more likely to live in the south or west who believe they are at less risk of getting coronavirus.

• Increased Covid-19 vaccination rates are expected to reduce hospitalization, strain on hospital capacity and deaths.
• An issue was that the people that were hesitant in getting the vaccine were lower educational attainment, Black race, not having the influenza vaccine, personal risk for coronavirus.
• Educational status (health literacy), race/ethnicity influence the preventiveness of health behaviors.
• There needs to be a need to implement the wellness of the vaccine which could close racial gaps. Those strategies that were used for the measles and influenza vaccine could be used here. But people are all steaming from the lack of trust in the health care.
• Vaccination Campaigns: Targets for the vaccine are members of racial and ethnic minorities, and individuals with low health literacy
