Implicit Bias Blog

In this assignment, I had to take an Implicit Bias test. The test was to show whether I have a bias, and to explore whether these types of tests work and are accurate.

The test was fair. I think it wasn’t accurate and you should not go by your results entirely. I believe the test more revolves around how focused you are rather than if you’re biased in a specific category. The test plays tricks on you to make you mix up the categories, which I feel does not explain a person’s bias. But it was fair, because it mattered if you were paying attention. The test focused on the amount of time you were taking on each question. I believe that does not show whether you’re biased or not about the topic. For example I could simply be reading the words on the screen and just trying to figure out if it goes to the right category, not judging if it’s “Young or Old” etc.. The test also focuses on word association. I do believe that certain topics would have certain words associated with it, so it does help in figuring if your biased or not.
